    Jibran : a Poet-Philosopher
(Journal of The Asiatic Society, 2009) Nadwi, Nazmul Hoque
Jibran Khalil Jibran was born on January 6,1883 near the Holy Cedar Grove on the edge of Wadi Qadisia (Sacred Valley) in the town of Bishari , Lebanon. His mother Kamilah Rahmeh, the . daughter of a clergyman, named Istiphan Rahmeh, was a widow when she married Khalil Jibran. father of the poet. Kamilah's first husband was Hanna Abdus Salam Rahmeh, by whom she had one son, Boutros, who was six years old when Jibran was born. Jibran's first sister Marinna was born in 1885 and his second sister Sultana was born in 1887.3 In 1897 Jibran, his half-brother Boutros, his mother and his two sisters emigrated to the United States, settling in Boston's Chinatown." while his father remained in Lebanon. Jibran returned to Lebanon in 1897, where he began a course of intensive study at al-Hikmah School. He studied a wide variety of subjects beyond those prescribed in the curriculum and immersed himself in Arabic literature, ancient and modern. He also familiarized himself with contemporary literary movements in the Arab world." . In 1899 during the summer vacation at Bishari, Jibran fell desperately in love with a beautiful young woman. Although there is much conjecture as to the nature of this relationship and the identity of the young woman, it is certain that Jibran found his first love affair both frustrating and disappointing. In the autumn he returned to Boston by way of Paris, and several years later described the unhappy affair in The Broken Wings.

(Md. Nazmul Hoque)
Jibran Khalil Jibran who inspired a whole generation of writers in developing Mahjar literature was a great philosopher poet of twentieth century. He was born of poor parents and brought up in conditions of squalor and poverty.”His father was indolent and alcoholic whose frequent tantrums terrified the youngster. His mother, the daughter of a priest, was an intelligent woman and resolute but helpless in the atmosphere of tension and brutality”. Thus Jibran concludes his life-long alienation. His thought in the twilight of his days seems to have swung back to his youth where it had first started. It is a complete cycle, in conformity, though perhaps unconsciously, with his idea of reincarnation. The tenacious cedar tree which was Jibran the Prophet went back again to the seed that it was: to love, human and frail-“ perchance to wake to the dawn of another worlds”. This article will try to discuses Jibran’s literary and philosophical thought-consciousness in his arabic works.

(Md. Nazmul Hoque)

The need for this translation arose from the dire need for such a translation in the Bengali society. In spite of the objective difficulties, and in spite of the negative impact of the lack of the contextual originality which is much linked to the environment, life and Sharia requirements call for such a translation, with a view to realizing a deeper understanding of the meanings of the Quran end reinforcing the Muslims' relation with it. There have been several attempts at the translation of the meanings of the Quran in Asia: in Turkish language and Persian. Non-Muslims also had their own trials with the purpose of the deformation of the Quran and rigging its judgments. Islam is well established through the history of Bangladesh. This motivated a good number of translations. This study aims at reviewing these translations, investigating them and presenting them together with related criticisms for the benefit of researchers in this field.
