Abstract
The purpose of this study is to monitor the voltage quality by measuring wave-shape data of the supply voltage. For several reasons, the supply voltage can be distorted. If the voltage distortion becomes very high, it could damage appliances or the appliances may malfunction. Therefore, the distribution system operators have the responsibilities to maintain the supply voltage within a standard limit. This work focused not only on identifying the voltage fluctuation but also the specific duration of the voltage fluctuation. To make it possible voltage samples with an interval of 1 millisecond have been recorded i.e. a total of 20 samples for each cycle of the supply voltage have been recorded. This wave-shape data can help to monitor the quality of the supply voltage. The recorded wave-shape data has been compared with the standard reference wave-shape data to see the deviation of the recorded wave-shape of the phase voltage i.e. if the supply voltage is deviated or not. In this process, the amount of voltage deviation and also the duration of the voltage deviation can be identified. All the outcomes from this work have been presented through the plot of the voltage measured by our device. This device has the option to transfer this data to any digital device for further analysis. By observing the voltage plot with respect to time, it’s easy to understand the differences and the fluctuation easily. The method for transferring the data was a USB to line converter which is actually a TTL converter. We can also store this data for further analysis.
