Abstract

At present, a lots of development activities have been done on foot over bridges in Bangladesh. Recently, the tendency of people to use foot over bridge is being diminished. Foot over-bridges are very important for improving the quality of urban life. Although the use of foot over bridges has risen, they are not being maintained regularly by the city authorities. There is indeed a lot of foot over bridges in Chittagong city, but due to lack of maintenance and safety, many accidents like hijacking, eve-teasing etc. occur on the foot over bridge. That’s why people are discouraged from using foot over bridges and crossing the road directly, which can be life threatening. For preventing those occurrences and developing the foot over bridge security system we design a new intelligent foot-over bridge with many features compared to a conventional one. With its energy source, smart security systems, and more updated features, the foot-over bridge in this project will be a superior upgrade for city life. Push-button switches have been put in place for emergencies, especially for pedestrians, which triggers a message system to the responsible administration. There is also an auto lighting system, which will be off during the day and turn on at night. This smart foot-over bridge also has a complimentary mineral water system considering the fatigue of pedestrians. Moreover, it also has a mobile charging system in exchange for payment. This whole system is control by Arduino Nano, Microcontroller (PIC16F73), SIM800L GSM module. There is no need to use any external power source to use these features because it is a self-generation system. Therefore, the proposed foot-over bridge will be very affordable and safe for people.
