(Asian Journal of Social Sciences & Humanities, 2018-11) Hossain, M. E.; Sultana, I.; Uddin, Md. S.; Hoq, M. N.; Ibrahim, Md.
Foreign direct investment is an important indicator of economic growth in any country especially developing and under developing countries which can make substantial progress in reducing poverty, supported by sustainable economic growth. Furthermore, the attraction in sector-wise investment in a country may generate a higher GDP growth rate. Keeping it in cognizance, this study examines the impact of sector-wise foreign investment on the economy of Bangladesh. To achieve the aim, Foreign Direct Investment data were collected from the survey report (2017) of the statistics department, Bangladesh Bank and Bangladesh economic review. For the fruitful study, the research work used descriptive analyses and multiple regression analyses to determine the impact of sector-wise FDI on economic growth. The growth rate over last 17 years of the foreign investment analysis indicates that highest growth was taken place in ‘Manufacturing’ sector followed by ‘Trade & Commerce’ and ‘Transport, Storage & Communication’ sectors which amount the rate 46.34, 21.74 and 21.66 per annum respectively. Whereas the multiple regression analyses indicate that FDI in the sector of ‘Services’, ‘Trade & Commerce’ and ‘Transport, Storage & Communication’ had the statistically significant effect on economic growth in Bangladesh. This finding suggests that a large part of the outcome of foreign investment may be due to the structuring influence of investment in trade, transport and energy sector in the forms of production.

This paper uses data from Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey 2011 to examine different socio-economic and demographic factors which are correlates to current contraception use among currently married women in urban and rural areas in Bangladesh. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses have been used to estimate the factors affected on contraception use in city and countryside of Bangladesh. The results show that current age of respondent, number of living children, respondent currently working, fertility preference, visited by FP field worker, marital duration and region have most significant effect on current contraception use in urban and rural areas by both cross-tabulation and logistic regression analyses. Moreover, respondent’s education and husband’s occupation have been found significant association with contraception use in both areas.

Firstly, to measure the relationship between selected variables Pearson Correlation matrix was used. Secondly, multiple regression analysis was used to investigate the impact working capital components on profitability of selected pharmaceutical firms. The study also conducted Durbin Watson test to assess autocorrelation of selected variables. In this study the correlation matrix identified a negative correlation between working capital components and profitability, whereas regression analysis found number of days account receivable (AR) had significant positive and current ratio (CR) and debt ratio (DR) had appeared a significant negative impact on profitability.

Cox’s Proportional Hazard Model Analysis of Child Survival in Bangladesh
(Asian Journal of Social Sciences & Humanities, 2013-05) Chowdhury, Abdul Hamid; Hossian, Mohammad Emdad; Khan, Md. Musa; Hoq, Mohammad Nazmul
This study utilizes data extracted from the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS-2007) to investigate the predictors of child survival (age under 5 years) in Bangladesh. The cross-tabulation and Cox’s proportional hazard model techniques have been used to estimate the predictors of child survival in Bangladesh. Parents’ education, occupation of father, region, type of toilet facility, access to mass media, breastfeeding status, birth order, birth spacing with previous child, age of mother, age at first marriage and antenatal visit during pregnancy have been found significant effect on child survival by both cross-tabulation and Cox’s proportional hazard techniques. Finally, these findings suggest that an increase in parents’ education, breastfeeding to child, encourage child bearing age of mothers at 20-34 years, legal age at marriage and improve health care services, could in turn raise child survival and decrease child mortality in Bangladesh.

(Malaysian Online Journal of Education, 2019) Hossain, Mohammad Emdad; Hoq, Mohammad Nazmul; Sultana, Israth; Islam, Rakibul; Hassan, Md. Zahid
The purpose of this study is to identify the relative importance of factors that influence the students’ satisfaction at private and public universities in Bangladesh. Moreover, the study examines different demographic and socio-economic variables that also affect stakeholders’ satisfaction at university. Quantitative method research design was conducted for the study and a sample of 182 students was taken from different private and public universities in Bangladesh. The results showed that students were mostly satisfied with teachers’ expertise and design of course curriculum in both categories of universities in Bangladesh while food facilities had the lowest positive response factor of the students. The exceptionality of this study is to use binary logistic regression analysis to identify the most important demographic determinants regarding satisfaction. It is found that female students were less likely to be satisfied overall on their respective institutions than their male counterparts. In addition, students from the urban area and also from middle-class economic condition had more likely to be satisfied than any other counterparts. Understanding these variables could assist educational institutions with bettering their strategies to achieve their desired goal. Moreover, the strategy of development of strong personal relations with students and faculty members can definitely alleviate the dissatisfaction of the students.
