Abstract
This study describes the design and fabrication of a low-cost spin coater for depositing thin films. Spin coater is a machine that can dispense a liquid onto a substrate uniformly. The system is designed using a brushless DC motor, ARDUINO Uno, ESC and other supporting components for precisely controlling the rotational speed. There are three specific speed selection such as 2599, 3257 and 4940 RPM are possible from this device. In our design, the rotational speed and spinning time are controlled automatically by these three assigned speed modes. With the help of this spin coater, we can deposit a thin film on a suitable substrate the. Thickness of the desired film can be controlled by varying concentration of the photoresist solution, rotational speed and deposition time. Our device is very cheap compared to the available spin coater in the market. Also, it offers an easy operating mode compared to the available programmable conventional spin coater in the market. Thin film deposition by this cost-effective spin coater is a very simple and can be used widely for preparing uniform thin films of desired thickness.
