Item Factors Influencing Green Consumption Behavior of Muslim Consumers in Bangladesh: Religiosity as a Moderator(International Islamic University Chittagong, 2018-11) Haque, Md. SharifulGreen consumption which is termed as environment friendly consumption is inevitable for sustainable development. This research aims at finding and analyzing factors affecting green consumption behavior of consumers in Bangladesh; and it also attempts to see the moderating effect of religiosity between behavioral intention to consume green products and green consumption behavior of Muslim consumers. In this study, theory of planned behavior, and the theory of reasoned action have been taken into consideration for identifying the pertinent factors relating to behavior. The variables include behavioral intention to consume green products, willingness to consume green products, environmental education, group recommendations, and self-efficacy which are deemed to have a direct influence on green consumption behavior while religiosity has been used as the moderator in the relationship between these five independent variables and green consumption behavior. Data were collected from the customers of some selected shopping malls in Bangladesh using multi-stage sampling procedure. The Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) is used to test the hypotheses of this study. It was found that behavioral intention to consume green products, willingness to consume green products, environmental education, and self-efficacy were significant factors which influence green consumption behavior. Among these determinants, behavioral intention to consume green products was found to be the most significant one. It was observed that the group recommendation is less significant as a factor which influences green consumption behavior. In the moderating effect, it was found that the relationship between behavioral intention to consume green products and green consumption behavior was moderated by religiosity. This study offers a new framework proposing the religiosity as a moderator to the green consumption behavior in developing countries. It supplements the existing empirical evidence to address the research gaps and responds to the calls for examining the consumption behavior in a Muslim developing country. The results derived from this research provide several practical implications for managers working in different industries and policy makers specifically, in terms of how to evaluate, build and improve the awareness among the consumers to consume green products.Item Malaysia’s Experience with Poverty Reduction : Lessons for Bangladesh(Centre for Research on Islamic Management and Business, 2014-12) Haque, Md. Shariful; Islam, Md. Aminul; Bakar, RosniMalaysia is experiencing a prominent and promising economic rise and has set many instances of development of not only social enterprises but also a total development. This paper is penned with a view to approaching some facts and figures concerned to the Development Policy of Malaysia, and then to furnish some policy prescriptions for the development of Bangladesh. This is all through a conceptual paper where the review of relevant literatures has been made. It has been evidenced that, in 37 years, poverty incidence has dropped about 48.4%. Not only that, the incidence has come down at 1.7% in 2012 in peninsular Malaysia when it was 49.3% in 1970. The number of poor households diminished from 1.6 million in 1970 to about 574,000 in 1990 and 228,400 in 2009. The decline in poverty incidence was considerably contributed by high and sustained economic growth during the period, which averaged 6-7% per annum. Some industries, particularly Tourism, have inspired many Malaysians to convert their houses into sales centers. Well framed policy, Political goodwill and stability, Well round trade-offs made many impossible possible in Malaysia.Item Use of Circular Malmquist Index (CMI) and Variable Returns to Scale (VRS-MI) in Productivity Measurement- a Comparative Study(Centre for Research on Islamic Management and Business, 2014-12) Azad, Md. Abul Kalam; Masum, Abdul Kadar Muhammad; Haque, Md. SharifulThis paper aims at comparing results between the circular Malmquist index (CMI) and the variable returns to scale Malmquist index (VRS-MI) from an even panel data. Based on the ground theory, the study purposefully uses comparative discussion on above mentioned methods. The contribution of the paper is on applied feature of using different methods at the same data set. The results of the study reveal that efficiency scores of VRS-MI is of higher value than that of CMI except major unit efficient Decision Making Units (DMUs). In case of some firms, the deviations are even in extreme points- highest gap is observed by 49.72%. From the perspective of the application, this paper focuses on deviate scores and therefore updates the relevant literature. The study covers data from 2009 to 2013 and uses one output- annual sales and three inputs; namely. (i) fixed asset; (ii) raw material; and (iii) salary expenses as variables
