Abstract
The research paper aims at studying the theory of the historicism and its basic
determinants in Western thought with a view to refuting this theory in the light
of the jurisprudential rule of "the meaning of an Islamic text understands
through the generalized meaning of its words, not the specific reason it was
revealed upon". The researcher makes an attempt to clarify the points of
agreement and disagreement between Islamic and Western thoughts regarding
this theory, and to look for the extent of its application to the Text of Holy
Quran and Sunnah.
The researcher relied on several scientific methods, including the inductive,
analytical and critical method, and reached to the conclusion that Historicism
with its Western intellectual determinants is not appropriate to apply on
Islamic texts, because it opposes the fundamental determinants of Islamic
thought.
