Item English words in Bangla speeches and conversations: An analysis of their influence on Bangla in Bangladesh(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2024-12) Hoque, Muhammad AzizulEnglish now serves as a global communication tool for diverse people and purposes, not just native speakers. Bangladesh borrows, code-switches, code-mixes, transliterates, and uses the language like other countries. As observed in writings, Bangladeshi multi-professionals also often use English lexicon in Bangla speeches and conversations. The phenomenon appears to have received little scholarly attention. Therefore, the current researcher has closely observed multi-professional conversations and speeches to determine how English lexical components affect Bangla spoken texts. Purposive sampling was used to select 42 multi-professional speeches and conversations for this study. The recorded data were analyzed using quantitative content analysis. The findings reveal the presence of English lexical elements of various natures in the daily speeches and conversations of Bangla speakers. This paper shows that while redundant, some English vocabulary components can make Bangla verbal communication livelier. To determine how English words affect Bangla, 17 academics were interviewed. Interview data were thematically analyzed. This paper aims to discuss the importance of language awareness, which can influence language policy and use in Bangladesh by focusing on the functions of both the native (Bangla) and foreign (English) languages.Item Islamic ethics towards refugee: Reflections on the responses of Muslim-majority countries(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2024-12) Islam, Md. ThowhidulThe issue of ‘Refugee’ has become a pressing global concern, with thousands displaced every year, the majority of whom are Muslims. According to UNHCR (2021), 89.3 million people worldwide are displaced, including 27.1 million refugees, primarily from Afghanistan, Myanmar, South Sudan, and Syria. Many live under inhumane conditions. In Islamic thought, hijra (migration) provides a broader understanding of asylum, recognizing it as a fundamental right irrespective of religion. The Holy Qur’an instructs Muslims to protect those seeking refuge, while both the Qur’an and Hadith establish a normative framework for safeguarding refugee rights. Against this backdrop, the study critically examines how Muslim-majority countries have responded to refugee challenges from an Islamic ethical perspective. Employing a critical review of literature, data analysis, and secondary sources such as books, journals, and official reports, it explores the gap between Islamic ethical obligations and state practices. The study also offers policy recommendations to enhance refugee protection and dispel prevailing misconceptions.Item Fundamental values of administration of justice: An appraisal of the dispensation of justice in Bangladesh(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2024-12) Islam, Mohammad SaifulAdministering justice is a critical role of the state that recognizes individuals' rights, assures impartial reprisal for wrongdoing, and promotes communal harmony. The judicial institution serves as the central mechanism for the proper administration of justice. To reach the right judgment, a fair, independent, and unbiased judicial process is essential. The legal system has thrived as a result of certain essential values that uphold the highest level of fairness and impartiality. As a result, Bangladesh's administration of the justice system cannot fall far behind. Since the judicial institution is at the center of the administration of justice, the research initially focuses on a thorough examination of the widely acknowledged essential core values in the judicial system. Second, the article seeks to assess Bangladesh's justice system's conformity to the justice system's inclusive essential values. Finally, the research concludes that Bangladesh's justice system has secured practically all essential principles through constitutional and legislative endorsement. Nonetheless, due to several shortcomings, the efficient legal process and accessibility of the justice system have been questioned.Item Probing into a peaceful bay from the concentration of capital in Saul Bellow's Dangling Man(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2024-12) Siddika, Mahmoda KhatonThis paper explores a peaceful bay in capitalist society as presented in Saul Bellow's Dangling Man through the concept of Emile Durkheim's 'Collective Conscience,' 'Social Integration,' and 'Organic Solidarity'. The interaction of these concepts is not out of relevance, mostly because Durkheim provides a facet of society, a living organism, where these concepts show a connectivity among them; the collective consciousness of having morals, attitudes and beliefs of a society activates the social integration which leads to organic solidarity of those who live with differing values. Moreover, Dangling Man delineates a man, Joseph, who finds difficulty in integrating himself into his capitalist society for its concentration of capital. He faces a conflict between his reality and his individuality which deters him from coping with society. As he undergoes complex personal matters, his wish to liberate himself from the entanglements of his community directs him to search for a place to which he attaches himself. By showing Joseph’s life under the strain of the concentration of capital, the paper probes whether Joseph finds a peaceful bay in his life to rejuvenate himself, which can be analyzed from diverse viewpoints. Thus, the study exposes how Joseph's attempt to regenerate himself fits into the ideas of Durkheim.Item The analysis of errors in the use of articles by the Bengali learners of English(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2024-12) Uddin, Md. AbsarThe present study investigates the kinds of errors committed by the secondary school students of class ten of Hashimpur M.A.K.U High School in Chattogram of Bangladesh. The main goal of the study is to improve the knowledge of using articles correctly through analyzing the errors. Data were gathered from the written essays of 52 students (boys and girls) and the test to fill in the blanks they were asked to fill with appropriate articles. Seven types of errors were identified and counted in frequency. They are-1. errors of substitution of an for a, 2. errors of substitution of a for an, 3. errors of omission of the definite article, 4. errors of using indefinite article with unmarked plurals, 5. errors of using indefinite article with adjectives, 6. errors of using definite article with non-count nouns, and 7. errors of using indefinite article with non-count nouns. The study revealed that most of the errors committed by the students were rooted in strategies like simplification, overgeneralization, or a few that could be traced back to the influence of the native language, Bangla. The findings can potentially bring necessary changes in teaching strategies and materials.Item Politics of persuasive narrative: legitimizing American invasion of Afghanistan in Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner from a neo-orientalist perspective(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2024-12) Salim, Mohammad Taher HossainThe Kite Runner (2003), published shortly after the American invasion of Afghanistan, has received overwhelming readership in the West and continues to draw critical analysis for its calculated appropriation of Afghan culture tailored for Western audiences. The paper explores Hosseini’s strategies of appropriation, often referred to as the “politics of persuasive narrative”, through which he presents to Western readers the social, cultural, historical, and religious contexts of Afghanistan. Using neo-Orientalism as the theoretical framework, the paper examines how Hosseini employs the politics of persuasive narrative in the novel and finds that his narrative authority and authenticity as the native Afghan author are constructed and feigned, and his history is omissive, distorted and purposively crafted to import Western human rights and introduce secular ideals in the traditional Afghan society. The paper finally concludes that Hosseini’s persuasive politics in the novel is designed to legitimize the American invasion of Afghanistan.Item Incorporating blended learning approach in higher education with innovative strategies practiced during the pandemic: Exploring students’ voices(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2024-12) Karu, Eshita KhanamBlended learning gained huge scholarly attention in Bangladesh during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Online teaching with tech-mediated tools was the only solution during the pandemic. Though it was the emergency response to continue teaching and learning during the disruptive situation, it paved the way to practice blended learning with the combination of face-to-face and online instruction. This paper reviews previously published literature, especially newspapers focusing on the pandemic and higher education in Bangladesh and accumulates students' voices to identify innovative techniques practiced during the pandemic so that these can be utilized to form a blended learning approach. Focusing on the qualitative approach, data were collected through published literature and students’ interviews. Data from published materials were analyzed using the document analysis procedure, whereas data gathered from interviews were analyzed using the thematic analysis procedure. Findings highlight both the failure and success stories along with the way of utilizing those success stories to implement blended learning. Based on the findings focusing on innovative COVID practices, this study, drawing the attention of the relevant policymakers, presents a blended lesson plan that can be utilized for English language teaching in Bangladeshi higher educational institutions.Item Photovoltaic efficacy of WS2 as back surface field (BSF) and SWCNT as an absorber layer for heterostructure solar cell: Numerical investigation by SCAPS-1D multidimensional framework(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2024-12) Uddin, Muhammad AtharThis study presents a highly efficient heterostructure solar cell model using single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as the absorber layer, tungsten di-sulfide (WS2) as BSF layer and platinum (Pt) as the back contact. Using the SCAPS-1D software, the research focuses on optimizing critical design parameters such as the thickness (W) and acceptor concentration (NA) of the absorber layer, along with the impact of as the BSF series-shunt resistance, temperature and defect densities across different layers. The model, ITO/CdS/SWCNT/WS2 configurations, aims to achieve superior PV performances. Key innovations include the incorporation of minority carriers to simulate defects and interfaces defect coefficients depicted through contour plots. The optimized parameters for the ITO/CdS/SWCNT/WS2 model are established at a thickness of 1.5 μm, an acceptor concentration of 4×1019cm−3 and a defect density of 1×1016cm−3, resulting in an efficiency of 30.01% with VOC = 0.86V, JSC = 41.42mA/cm2 and FF = 83.84% achieved at 300oK temperature. These discoveries underscore the considerable promise of SWCNTs functioning as the absorber layer in a heterostructure solar cell, offering promising outcomes for environmental sustainability and global energy solutionsItem In vitro antimicrobial, cytotoxicity, antioxidant and In vivo analgesic activities of methanol extract of Dipterocarpus turbinatus leaves(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2024-12) Abu Sayeed, Mohammad; Ahmad, Muzammil; Kader, Shalah Uddin; Hasan, MehediThe study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial, cytotoxic, antioxidant, and analgesic properties of a methanol extract of Dipterocarpus turbinatus leaves. At a dose 0f 200 mg/kg of MEDT, 28.51±0.560 seconds were spent licking the paw while at a dose of 400 mg/kg of MEDT, 23.60±0.545 seconds were spent licking the paw.Item In vitro quality assessment of ketotifen fumarate tablets commercially available in Bangladesh(Center for Research and Publication (CRP), 2024-12) Sayeed, Mohammed AbuQuality defines the standard of a product and every company strives to achieve it, although it is often challenging. Quality of pharmaceutical products is very important for achieving the therapeutically activity of the standard drugs. This research work was aimed to investigate the quality control parameters of five brands of ketotifen that are available in the market. The five ketotifen brands were collected from the Bangladeshi local market, after which they underwent various physical parameter assessments including weight variation, hardness, friability, potency, disintegration, and acid-base degradation assessments. The brands passed the tests as no tablets crossed the ±10 % weight variation. The percentage friability of the five brands was less than 1%, hence they satisfied the standards. The disintegration time of the tablets did not exceed 5 minutes; therefore, they met the standards. All the brands showed potency ranging from 90 to 110%. In the degradation studies, no products met the USP specified limit. The average hardness of all brands did not meet the standard criterion.
