Item Community Based Tourism: A Potential Tool for Alleviating Poverty in Bangladesh(CRP, International Islamic University Chittagong, Bangladesh, 2015-12) Khandaka, Sabrina; Muzahid, Mohammad Aman UddinThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the possible ways to alleviate poverty through developing community based tourism in Bangladesh- a country with a dominant rural population and agro-based economy. Community-based tourism [CBT] has been proposed as the appropriate program for addressing poverty by providing opportunities for income and employment generation. This paper deliberately attempts to portray the strategies and tactics for developing community based tourism in Bangladesh. Which properly can control the stressful nature of tourism while empowering the community; expanding tourism enterprises run by local communities; maximizing use of local labor, goods and services through reducing leakage; expanding informal sector linkages; preserving culture; conserving the environment and providing educational opportunities? However, a number of barriers prevent the poor from participating in such programs, including a lack of social capital and skills that need to be addressed before the benefits of CBT can be realized. In this regard, the study tries to find out the potentials of Islamic microfinance programs that extend small loans to poor people and provide them an access to micro-businesses supplying tourism product and services at low cost. Secondary data were used to achieve the objectives in this study. The write-up also suggests that an integrated approach to tourism planning and development is required for a notable sustainable growth of tourism sector that will very soon emerge as a major contributor to the economy of Bangladesh and will be able to unlock opportunities as well as create net benefit for the poor people of rural Bangladesh..Item Informal Islamic Education and its Role in Human Resource Development in Society: A Theoretical Evaluation(CRP, International Islamic University Chittagong, Bangladesh, 2006-12) Alam, Kamiz Uddin Ahmed; Muzahid, Mohammad Aman UddinThis article attempts to focus on Islamic education in the informal setting, its correspondence with human resource development and the role of this development to create a sound and balanced environment in society with moral and spiritual values. Firstly, the paper addresses education and its function in general and then education from Islamic perspective. Secondly, it discusses the character of informal Islamic education, the role players of the field of informal Islamic education, their status as teachers, the role of a teacher, the competencies of a teacher, and teacher - learner relationship in the light of Islamic culture and heritage. Finally, a proposal on the specific subject of Informal Islamic education and the strategies of imparting it are presented in the article.Item Problems and Prospects of Islamic Capital Market In Bangladesh(Centre for Research on Islamic Management and Business, 2016-12) Muzahid, Mohammad Aman Uddin; Sadat, IrfanaIslamic finance is acquiring a growing respected place in the world financial system and its market share has been growing by more than 15 percent annually for the last ten years. It has been acknowledged by the scholars on the need for this development to cater for the Islamic banking, Takaful and Islamic capital market industries. Among these three streams of the service industry, the Islamic capital market plays a crucial role to support the other two. Since Islamic banks and Takaful operators have to invest to provide the benefits to the investors and policy holders which are compatible with the conventional counterparts, the Islamic capital market is assumed to be the backbone for the two to survive and grow in the Islamic finance industry. It is the objective of this paper to investigate the problems and prospects of Islamic capital market in Bangladesh. Hence, issues related to the ICM such as instruments that is presently used for capital financing, and the background and origin of the Islamic capital market were discussed. Finally, it was concluded that the ICM is rapidly growing and there is a huge potentials waiting to be exploited in the market.
