Item Shelley’s Romantic Passion in ‘Ode to the West Wind’:Its Impact on Farrukh Ahmad(CRP, International Islamic University Chittagong, Bangladesh, 2015-12) Hosain, Md IqbalThe paper intends to explore a parallel between Shelley and Farrukh Ahmad through a minute analysis of some of their celebrated poems pregnant with romantic passion. ‘Ode to the West Wind’, which has been considered as one of the most significant poems of Shelley, conceives his utmost romantic idea that corresponds to the romantic spirit of Farrukh Ahmad expressed in ‘Jhod’ and ‘Boishakh’, two of his famous poems. In ‘Ode to the West Wind’ Shelley urges the west wind to destroy the aged old society full of corruption and injustice and at the same time pleads it to preserve the society by spreading the seeds of new hope and regeneration. So does Farrukh Ahmad in his ‘Jhod’ and ‘Boishakh’. Though their beliefs and ideologies are not alike, they have taken the west wind as an emblem of destroyer and preserver.Item Teaching - Learning Situation of Speaking in English at the University Level: A Case Study(CRP, International Islamic University Chittagong, Bangladesh, 2010-12) Hosain, Md IqbalThis paper intends to find out the problems that the students face in speaking in English at the different universities in Bangladesh. It investigates the merits and demerits of the existing teaching methodology of English at the university level. With a view to finding out the causes of the students lack of competence in speaking in English, some authentic data have been collected from the different universities of the country. And after a thorough analysis, a suggestion has been made for teachers to use some pragmatic ways of improving speaking skills in English. It further examines the different techniques of teaching speaking in English at the university level along with its curriculum and testing system, and offers some easy and modern methods of teaching English.
